What is Balayage?

Balayage (French for "to sweep") is a freehand highlighting technique where color is painted directly onto the hair. Unlike traditional foils, balayage creates soft, natural-looking dimension with no harsh lines.

The result? Hair that looks like you spent a summer in the sun. Natural, effortless, and beautifully blended. And because the color is concentrated at the ends, the grow-out is seamless. Less maintenance, more beauty.

Whether you're going for subtle warmth, bold contrast, or sun-kissed ends, balayage can be customized to your exact vision. And yes, it's stunning on curly hair.

Balayage FAQs

What's the difference between balayage and highlights?

Traditional highlights use foils and are placed in precise sections from root to tip. Balayage is hand-painted onto the hair surface, creating a softer, more natural blend. Balayage typically grows out more gracefully with less obvious regrowth, which means fewer trips to the salon.

Will balayage work on my dark hair?

Absolutely! Balayage is beautiful on dark hair. We'll choose tones that complement your base color. Often warm caramel, honey, or chestnut shades. Going from very dark to very light takes more time and may require multiple sessions, but the results are stunning.

Can I get balayage on curly hair?

Yes! In fact, balayage can be especially beautiful on curly hair because the hand-painted technique works with your natural curl pattern. As a curly hair specialist, I understand exactly how to place color to enhance your curls' dimension, not fight against it.

How long does balayage last?

Because balayage grows out naturally without a harsh line, most clients can go 3-6 months between appointments. Some clients stretch even longer! You may want a toner refresh around 6-8 weeks to keep the tone fresh and vibrant.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Come with clean, dry hair (no heavy products). Bring inspiration photos so we can discuss your goals. If you've colored your hair before (especially with box dye or henna), please let me know, as it affects how we approach your color.
