Transitioning to Natural Curls

Transición al cabello natural

Transitioning is the period between your last chemical or heat service and the point where all your hair is your natural curl. It can take twelve to thirty-six months. Done well, you keep most of your length. Done wrong, you fight your hair every day for two years.

The Two-Texture Phase

La fase de dos texturas

Most of the transition is two textures coexisting on one head. Curly new growth at the root, straight or loosely textured ends. This creates a visible line of demarcation that's fragile.

The line is where breakage happens. The cut strategy is about gradually removing the older texture without taking length faster than necessary.

Two paths:

Most clients land somewhere in between. The choice gets discussed at the consult based on your specific hair and what matters to you.

Transition FAQs

Preguntas sobre transición

How long does it take to fully transition?

12 to 36 months depending on how fast your hair grows and how much length you're willing to lose along the way.

Big chop or slow transition?

Personal call. The consult will lay out the math for your specific timeline.

Will my natural pattern come back exactly?

Usually yes. Sometimes a different texture surfaces, especially after long chemical histories.

Can I still color my hair while transitioning?

Yes, but the consult will limit which services. Avoid additional chemical processes during the most fragile phase.
