Método Curly Girl, versión honesta
The Curly Girl Method is a set of rules popularized by Lorraine Massey for caring for curly hair. Some rules work. Some are misapplied. Most importantly, the method is a starting point, not a rule book.
Qué dice realmente
Most curly-friendly product lines now follow CGM principles even if they don't market it that way.
Lo que funciona
Avoiding harsh sulfates and drying alcohols is genuinely good for most curly hair. Reducing heat is good. Microfiber or cotton t-shirt drying creates less frizz than terry cloth towels.
These are not curl-specific, they're just gentler hair care that's especially important for textured hair.
Lo que está sobrevalorado
Never using shampoo (the co-wash only approach). For most clients in San Diego with mineral-heavy water, occasional clarifying shampoo is necessary. Buildup is real.
Treating all silicones as bad. Some silicones are water-soluble and actually help. The blanket ban is too broad.
Treating the method as an identity. Some clients become so devoted to CGM rules that they refuse to try anything that doesn't fit. The hair responds to results, not to rules.
